Floral, Plain and Plaid

Sunday, July 14, 2013

Probably not the wisest choice wearing all black on a hot summer day in NYC but I do as I please in my outfit choices. Mixing prints of floral and plaid were my choices of that day. That floral hat was a recent purchase that I am wearing to death to prove a point as my boyfriend and lil sis believes that it will end up on the head of my big stuffed dog. The floral pattern is eye catching. Girls AND guys can rock the hat!

Floral Time with Piperlime

Monday, June 24, 2013

Now that the sun sets later in the day, I am more prone to going places after work. More sun = more fun! Saw that Piperlime and Song of Style's Aimee Song were collaborating again for a in-store event in Soho, so why not check it out. Who isn't a fan of this wonderful humble blogger??!

There she is... in the flesh. Is she not GORGEOUS?!!!?!?! Too shy to speak to her, so a snapped picture of her is good enough for me. lol One day, I shall be brave!

Everything in the Piperlime store is so photogenic and boy, did I want to take a lot of it home with me. Some ideas for my future house...

Being at a clothing store, I was drawn to so many pieces. Still on the hunt for a beautiful statement necklace but haven't found the perfect one yet. Loving the awesome chevron clutch in black and white, which NEEDS to be in my collection. Such a simple, yet classic accessory. Might get the cheaper version at Forever 21 but I need to cut back on the spending.  Ah, shopaholic problems. Pastel crop tops are something I will be totally rocking this summer! Red and black is a combo that will never go out of style in my book. It may be too dark for the hotter days though.

My favorite clothing combination is wearing this super cheap bright yellow sweater that I got on sale for $10 about 6 years ago with this chiffon floral top. It just goes so well together. Do you have a favorite combination that you wear?

Friday Fixings: Whites

Thursday, June 20, 2013

Don't think I have ever worn an all white outfit but there is always a first. It is definitely one of the biggest trends in fashion. Maybe one day... Although I do tend to steer clear of white, I think the two main pieces below are extremely versatile staples. The blazer can be paired up with heels and some sequin shorts for a night out with the girls. Another option is to pair it with some trousers and flats for a business meeting. Or if you want a refined yet casual look, go for the blazer with some trusty Chucks. Definitely could do alot with that outwear piece! I especially love the cut of this one!

I'm a sucker for blouses with movement. Flowy and feels nice on the skin! A blouse is such an essential in any girl's closet. Pair it with a leather skirt and boots for a rocker chic look. Even the blouse with boyfriend jeans for a casual day out running errands would be cute too.

Inglot's Virtual Makeover App Launch Event

Sunday, June 9, 2013

Saw through Twitter that Inglot was having an event right where I previously worked by so I RSVP'd right away. Before arriving, I decided to take search up the app on my IPhone. It's a cool concept to be virtually made over and the makeup application works pretty well with this app. Take a pic of yourself then you get to pick the types of foundation, the eyeshadows, the whole sha-bang, adjust according to your facial structure, then voilà! The only negative with the app that should be mentioned is the glitches. It freezes from time to time so you'd have to close out the app then reopen it again. And for all you Droid users, it is not available yet unfortunately. Hopefully soon!

Take a look at my lips! So vampy! Does it suit me?? LOL, I was hasty while doing this but take your time!

Since I was coming directly from work, I decided to wear this simple outfit with flats and switched into heels for the event. Very work appropriate, don't you think? :)

The rest of the night consisted of munching on macarons, sipping champagne and completing social networking tasks to win an IPHONE 5! We also actually got to walk away with a 4-pan palette with 3 bright lipsticks and 1 eyeshadow and an adorable lipstick pen. How sweet is that?

There is another event on June 29th if anyone is in the NYC area! It's held at their Chelsea location, on the 5th floor of Chelsea Market (75 95th Ave). Just RSVP to inglotstudionyc@inglotusa.com. See you there!

Friday Fixings: Black

Friday, May 31, 2013

Fridays will be the day where a post will be made on my current wants or obsessions that I am fixated on. So for this first post, it will be all about my favorite color to wear: black.

Work Appropriate

Monday, May 27, 2013

Working a full time job often means dragging yourself out of bed and throwing on whatever works. At least, that is what I assume. But you know what they say about assuming. Anyway, my college roommate and I were going to an event after work so I decided to wear this outfit and switch out my flats for these Zara heels. Best investment ever! They are on point with their shoes there! Anyone addicted to their shoes?

Mahalo Paradise

Sunday, May 26, 2013

Our last full day in Oahu consisted of eating and just relaxing! Throughout our stay, the weather was quite cloudy and often rainy so having the sun shine bright like a diamond the day before we left was wonderful.

Stuck to another black outfit because I'm unimaginative like that.

Does anyone save their gift cards until they find something worth buying? I received a Macys gift card from my friend Dave for my birthday a few months back and I didn't use it until right before my vacation. Spotted this super cute Material Girl's crop top on their website and had to snatch it up! Love the unique back details!

RayBan wayfarers

Ever since I snagged these a couple of years ago for my birthday at Century 21, I haven't been wearing any other sunglasses!! This pair was the last one left on the counter and it was discounted--$50!!!! How could I walk away?? The only problem were they had a few scratches but whatever, I will make due. My boyfriend actually ended up buying these for me (hehe, thanks beb!) and they are my go-to sunglasses wherever we go. Love the light pink color of them, definitely a pop of color in my usually drab wardrobe.

Swap Meet Sunday

Sunday, May 5, 2013

My boyfriend is a huge fan of sports so whilst in Hawaii, he wanted to see the Aloha Stadium Swap Meet, which wasn't too far from where we stayed so we decided to hop on a shuttle bus and check it out. Heard they had souvenirs for a cheaper price, so why not?

I love the juxtaposition of opposites and this seemed to fit. It is quite casual with the muscle tee and the sandals but the skirt makes it fancy. It paired nicely!

Got myself a yummy shaved ice with strawberry and lime flavors to start. Look at the SIZE of that thing! It was hard for me to eat at first since I never get shaved ice before so a lot of it was dripping all over me. Such a slob when I eat but boy was it good!

For those of you who ever go to the Swap Meet, there are letters surrounding the stadium, some single letters and some double letters. Our shuttle driver told us to pay attention to the letters as most people start shopping by the single letters and then realize there were better prices by the double letters. Be sure to haggle with the vendors! Ended up getting banana bread, a super cute solar powered Hula dancer, and a few other goodies for my family/friends.

Oahu's Photo Finish

Sunday, April 28, 2013

The reason I wanted to go to Hawaii was because of Oahu Photography Tour. I knew this would be different from your generic guided tours offered and being that this is about photography, that's a plus!

Our first stop was the Makapu’u lookout to see the amazing sun rise over Oahu around 6am. My gosh was it beautiful! Being up so early was definitely worth seeing this with the love of my life. Never realized how fast the sun rises either! Such a natural beauty.

Next few stops were beautiful landscapes of Oahu. Truly a wonder to see all these places that I would never be able to see back in NYC. Kuloa Regional Park was the backdrop of my outfit of the day. You must think I'm crazy to wear all black but it was not as sunny as we had hoped here in the Hawaiian Islands. There was supposedly a storm that week we stayed but it is was what it was. We still enjoyed our break away from work! :)

I found Crush!!! The Laniakea Beach was where we saw 2 giant sea turtles resting. We were told they are endangered too so being able to see them in them lazing around on the beach like this was incredible.

Lei Down the Law.

Thursday, April 25, 2013

Flew a 10 hour non-stop flight with my boyfriend to Honoulu, Hawaii for 6 nights and it was a great trip albeit the fickle weather we experienced there. Upon arrival, we hailed for a cab and we got a limo cab!!! How awesome is that? Definitely a great way to start our vacation! Once we got to our hotel, we basically flopped down on our bed and rested for awhile. Being cramped in such a small space surprisingly wears a person down.

The next day, we may our way to the Royal Hawaiian Center. I did some research prior to our vacation and found that they offer free lei making classes! It is definitely harder than it looks! You have to string it a certain way through the flower in order for it not to fall off. Our teacher (the one in blue) was a sweet woman but was a drill sergeant when it comes to lei making. She had no qualms about taking off all your flowers off if you did it incorrectly.

Empty No Longer

Tuesday, March 12, 2013

Stumbled upon this free tour for an exhibition called How Much Do I Owe You in Long Island City. Curated by a nonprofit organization called No Longer Empty; their mission is to go in search for spaces that are no longer being used and revitalize them through art! Who says art can't move the public? Apparently, this organization has produced so many exhibitions in the past. If I had only knew then! I would have gone to them! With every place they choose, they use the setting as the theme. For How Much, the exhibition took place in the bank of the long abandoned clock tower. Bank = money, power, savings, trust, debt through the eyes and ears of artists from around the world.

Our tour guide, Lucy, told us a story about the mural behind her. It's a house made of losing lotto tickets. These tickets show the lost dreams of one man, who kept all his losing tickets in boxes. The intricacy of this artwork is amazing and painstaking for the artist to do, I'm sure!
Learning the history of the bank was way more interesting to hear from Lucy, our guide, then from my HS teachers. Apparently, in the 1980s or so, Chase bought out the bank and they plastered the place with boringness (as I would call it lol) but No Longer Empty tore it out and exposed the original detailing of the building. But the best part of the tour? Was seeing the bank vault! Never have I ever been close to one let alone an abandoned one that was still in pristine shape!

The piggy bank: a symbol of savings. Most of us growing up had one. We all dream of a better life so we save money and/or play the lotto.

This room in the basement housed some old bank deposit boxes which was cool but what I liked about this room was the eerie nature of it symbolizing that even in the darkest corner of a place, things (ie plants) can still flourish. The oxygen masks used as lights even made the effect more creepy...

They also had participatory things for attendees to do so my boyfriend and I created our own 100 dollar bill. His was way better than mine so here is his masterpiece. This is what I imagine Benjamin Franklin would be as a dog. lol

I was feeling girly, bold and dark at the same time so this is what I ended up wearing to the tour. Love the black and white combination. It will never go out of style in my book. Too bad it was still pretty cold or I woulda whipped out my new Zara pumps. Alas, what can a girl do but wear her trusty booties!

Last day to see this exhibition before they close it down is Sunday, March 17th!! Please go if you get the chance!  It's free for the public! :)
