Leave it to Liebster

Saturday, April 11, 2015

Beckie of The Sussex Girl, my new UK blogger friend, graciously nominated a few other bloggers and I for the Liebster Award. This is a way of showing new bloggers support! So thank you Beckie as well as to my other readers for being supportive as I take this journey through being a blogger.

The rules
1) Each blogger should answer the questions the tagger has set for you. 2) Choose new bloggers with less than 200 followers to pass the award on to and link them in your post. 3) Create 11 new questions for the chosen bloggers. 4) Go back to their page and tell them about the award. 5) Each blogger should post 11 new questions for their nominees and let them know about the award!

Beckie's 11 questions

1.) What is your favourite way to travel?
By airplane because I love seeing everything from an aerial view. The oceans are just so blue and the lands are often covered with green or silver depending what city you pass over!

2.) Why did you start your blog?
Started my blog as somewhere to post my style along with my travels and hopefully to expand to books and foods that I enjoy!

3.) What's your favourite way to spend a Saturday?
When the sun is out, I very much enjoy just walking around new places that I haven't been to before! There's just something about being exploring that I want to do more of!

4.) What two things would you save from your belongings in a disaster?
My 2 sentimental items from Glenn.

5.) Do you have siblings?
One little sister. (she's actually 19 as of last Oct)

6.) Pick a language to learn and tell why you chose it.
My mom's dialect -- Fuzhounese so I can tell her to simmer down with her loud voice when she's "talking" aka screaming haha

7.) What would you say is your go-to dish in the kitchen.
I make ramen real good with my poached egg skills & boiled broccoli.

8.) What's your favourite quote?
I don't have a favourite one that resonates with me, to be honest.

9.) What was your favourite TV show from your childhood?
Boy Meets World was one of them! There were so many good shows back in the day!

10.) Heels or flats?
Definitely a flats kinda gal. I prefer comfort and being closer to the ground as possible, especially since I can be pretty clumsy.

11.) Goals for 2015?
Find a home with Glenn & be appreciate of life!

Questions for my Nominees
1.) If you won the 600 million Powerball jackpot, what would be the first thing you do?
2.) What do you love living in your hometown?
3.) If you could switch lives with anyone, who would it be and why?
4.) Would you rather know when you are going to die so you can do anything you want to do or just live your life without knowing when and go with the flow?

Dining on Style Travels: Orlando, Florida

Sunday, March 22, 2015

Long overdue photos from our trip to Orlando, Florida during the April of last year. Stayed at the wonderful Villas of Grand Cypress for the 2nd time and boy, it was just as good as the first! Definitely would recommend the hotel. It is right outside the center of the magic.

First day, wore something easy going and comfortable as we lounged by the pool/hot tub and walked around the area. Met some new friends by cave -- some lizards. Yes, they all hung out with us as we sat there relaxing. It was quite enjoyable.

Second day, we took a trip to Magic Kingdom and Epcot since these 2 theme parks have things to do for us adults. Although, I am still a kid at heart!

Magic Kingdom is where we saw a parade going on, wandered around until we saw the Cinderella Castle, and ate dole whip from Aloha Isle. That was my favorite part of Magic Kingdom, alone. LOL. What is dole whip? It is glorious pineapple soft serve! Sooooo good!

Epcot is basically seeing the world in one park. Put this on the itinerary if you want to experience different cultures all in 1 spot. While looking up which theme parks to go to, I settled on this one because there is thing called "Drinking around the World", which is a challenge that aims at having a drink from each of the 11 countries in 1 day. We aren't big drinkers but I thought it would be fun to travel the world here and try a drink or two!

In this pic, I'm holding the Schöfferhofer Grapefruit from Germany in front of Japan! Haha, I crossed a border (or more) and hopped right to Japan! Brought a lil bit of NYC via my map too because Florida weather can be spotty sometimes. Rain one hour then sunny the next.

It was also the Flower and Garden Festival at the time we were visiting which was so beautiful to see! It's almost like the Macy's flower show during the winter time but we get to see it at the happiest place on earth -- Disney World!!

Last day was us chilling by the pool again, wandering the resort and just enjoying the last days in Orlando. Wore this outfit, which by far is my favorite. The floral bustier has subtle hits of yellow and blue, which the sweater and shorts brought out even more. Can you believe I only got that bustier for $10 at Buffalo Exchange? Love me a good sale.

Since this was a quick getaway trip for us, we didn't want to do so many things because that can get expensive. Trips are definitely a great way to rekindle with each other because for some couples like us, it's hard to see each other every day because we live so far from each other. We are looking for our next trip, any ideas?

Book Review: Love, Lashes, and Lipstick

Sunday, January 25, 2015

As an avid bookworm back in the day, my love for reading has revived yet again out of nowhere this past year!  I am a sucker for anything historical fiction but am always opened to any books.

Now, when Birchbox first introduced their Book Club back in May 2014, I got super excited! If you don't already know, Birchbox is a subscription service that mails you samples of highly raved items. I'm sure most of you out there already know what it is. If not, check them out!

Anyway, each month they come out with a book of the month and for the month of January, it was Mally Roncal's Love, Lashes, and Lipstick. I have heard of Mally Beauty but never knew what the story behind the brand was about.

mally roncal, book, beauty, makeup, self-help, reference, guide, birchbox, birchblogger

The book serves as a life guide, autobiography, and beauty lessons all jumbled into one! Mally is one Filipina with so much determination who makes her late momma proud through her passion -- makeup.

beauty, makeup, tutorial, face, illustration, mally beauty, mally roncal, book, birchbox, birchbloggers, mally roncal book

It's a great guide for women to love themselves, be proud of who they are, and learn that everyone has a path to success.
mally roncal, book, review, love lashes and lipstick, beauty, birchbox, birchbloggers, makeup
Mally acts as a mentor and teaches that we all make a difference in this world, in some shape or form. After reading, it made me think about my life and what I want to achieve. I have so many passions/dreams but am so afraid to take that leap. It's scary to be out of your comfort zone. With that said, I will leave you with a question by Mally in her book.

"What is your all? What do you want? What will fulfill you as a human being?"

Financial compensation was not received for this post. This book was gifted from Birchbox for a randomly select number of Birchbloggers. Opinions expressed here are my own.

Holiday Gift Guide for 2014

gift guide 2014, christmas list, shopping, gift ideas

Chloé fragrance Bare Minerals foundation / Cutting Fruit Set Wooden Play Food / Tazo Tea and Teapot Gift Sets / Pinwheel Plush Gloves / Smart Gear Auto Safety Tire Gauge / Pick Punch The Original Guitar Pick Punch / Ethical Pet Spot Sneak A Treat Shuffle Bone Pet Toy IQ Puzzle / The Art of Shaving The 4 Elements Of The Perfect Shave® Starter Kit -…

When gifting, I always have a rule that the item purchased has to be either useful or something that relates to their hobbies/interests. Hope it helps!!!

1. Chloé mini travel gift set is one for the beauty lovers, girly girls and for travelers. Think it is such a classic scent for any lady of any age.

2. bareMinerals Collector's edition deluxe foundation is for those who have this as their holy grail foundation (aka like ME!). Been a user ever since I received a sample at Sephora and have gone through jars of these.

3. Melissa and Doug Cutting Fruit Set is a great educational product for little kids. So adorable!

4. Tazo Tea and teapot gift set is great for anyone since there are benefits in drinking tea and the design of the teapot is just so simple/nice.

5. Gloves are always useful and a easy gift to get if you are in a bind.

6. Have a car enthusiast? Give them a smart gear auto safety tire gauge. With this in hand, they can gauge their tires and make sure they are inflated. Comes with flashlight and other tools!

7. Musicians- guitar players? Guitar pick punch is quirky and thoughtful since when you lose a pick, you'd have to buy one but with this, anything could essentially become one! Customization at its' best.

8. Pet lovers would love this! It keeps the dog entertained while you are possibly cooking or just don't want to be bothered and gives them mental stimulation.

9. For the men in your lives with stubble. Gives them some pampered that they deserve too after what they do for us. It is only proper to do the same for them.

Happy Holidays to you and your family!!

3 items I always gravitate towards when shopping:
  • Blazers
  • Tops
  • Flats
Why? Because these are all functional pieces that can be rotated for work, school, and just about any other daily activity! I am all about clothing items that can be styled in a variety of ways since I work a 9-5 job and like to go out with friends or to events right after. Clothes have to be able to withstand my entire day but still look fashionable. I'm not the type to bring a change of clothes either. Too much work!

angel wings, asian fashion blogger, chinese fashion blogger, Forever 21 ankle strap flats, Zara skort, porcelain print top, American Eagle denim blazer

Denim blazers like this one from American Eagle create more of a comfortable, casual feel vs. a structured black one, which is normally my go-to office outerwear.

Found this beautiful porcelain print top on sale in Urban Outfitters and just had to bring it into my collection. It just reminds me of the china that we have at home but wearable! My favorite type of tops are sleeveless and chiffon-like. They make for great office wear with some high-waisted trousers and also is great for when hanging out on a hot summer day or as a layering piece during the cooler months. See what I mean, multi-purpose fashion!

Being that I'm 5'6", I feel like a giant when it comes to heels 3" and higher so flats are the way to go in my world. Love that these Forever 21 ones have gold hardware AND thick ankle straps with a pointed toe. Perfect pair of footwear for work and play that doesn't kill your feet.

Cherry Blossom Interview

Friday, May 23, 2014

Few years ago, I had gone to the Brooklyn Botanical Garden with my lil sister to see the Cherry Blossoms but they had all fallen then. Bummer! Wanted to go this year when they were in full peak and of course, the day my boyfriend and I go is the day Mother Nature decides to have sporadic rain showers. As soon as we get there, it started drizzling so we took cover in the Brooklyn Museum. Luckily, for us, the sun came back!

Felt like matching the flowers and since I don't have too much pink, I decided to break out my new Zara blazer. It is SUCH a soft material and paired it up with my go-to high waisted jeans and a crop top try toning down the business-y look of it. Glenn still thought I looked like I was going for an interview. lol :/ Oh wells.

Not a big fan of white anything as it gets dirty too quick but I loved this bag for the summer time feel. Great for carrying the big DSLR around and STILL look fashionable.

Dining on Style Travels: Chicago

Saturday, May 3, 2014

Behind in blog posts and I apologize to my followers! Life has caught up with me and I have been so busy at work that all I want to do when home is just vegetate/watch youtube videos.

Since the last post, a lot has happened so more posts to be posted! First up, Chicago!

Couple of months ago, went here with my boyfriend for one weekend and I must say, the architecture is far more superior than that of NY's. If you are in Chicago, take a boat tour. Lots of historic information and when the sun sets, it's just pure beauty.

Warning: Architecturally picture heavy.

We ended our night eating deep dish pizza which is a MEH in my book (sorry, I prefer NY style!) then heading to the John Hancock tower for drinks. Awesome view of Millenium Mile and the Sears Tower by the window seats if you're lucky!

Tip for travelers: Go to the Signature Lounge on the 96th floor to pass over the line to see the view and it's cheaper to just get a beer ($8) than pay full price  ($18) for the view!

The next day, we spent some time at Millennium Park and saw the famous Cloud Gate, which is lovingly called The Bean by locals. Not as big as I thought but it is still a pretty neat piece of art smack dab in the park!

Love all the funky sculptures around the park via Jun Kaneko. I'm a big fan of making faces in photos and there you have it. Me in all my glory.

Definitely need to come back to Chicago again! So many other places that I missed going to!

Where is one place you would like to travel to and why?
